Rachel Forbat Marriott, LM, CPM, is a Certified Professional Midwife and California Licensed Midwife. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California and the National College of Midwifery, and has attended births throughout Southern California as well as in the Philippines. She has a background as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), working for several years on ambulances in the greater Los Angeles area. Rachel is a native of Ventura County, where she lives with her husband and son. She attends home and birth center births throughout Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles counties, and teaches clinical midwifery skills to students through the National College of Midwifery.

Rachel’s journey into midwifery began as a freshman at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. Originally pre-med and studying public health, she discovered midwifery by chance in a global health course. As she began to explore midwifery in more depth, she was drawn to the Midwives Model of Care and the holistic, whole-person view of healthcare. While attending births as a doula and shadowing midwives, she came to recognize that normal pregnancy and birth is not an illness, and that normal, low-risk birth works best when left alone! As a midwife, she believes one of her greatest skills is knowing when to sit back and watch labor unfold, recognizing the many variations of normal birth. This careful study of normal helps her to recognize the occasions where things do deviate from normal or where additional intervention is truly needed. In these moments, Rachel will work to guide your pregnancy, birth, or postpartum back to normal, and will collaborate with other care providers when needed to ensure you and your baby receive the highest quality of care possible for your situation.

Rachel is blessed to have witnessed hundreds of births, from first babies to those greeted by a roomful of siblings, from quiet weekend morning births to raucous Fourth of July fireworks births, from births so fast she races over at the first sign of labor to births that take a few days to happen. She had a 34 hour home birth with her own son, and is grateful to her birth team for giving her the space to birth her baby in perfect timing.
